A video to show the process from start to finish from Kriz Krest.

To measure your sewing machine:

Make sure you include all the machine’s components that stick out.

I used 1/4” seam allowance all throughout this project, except the 1/8” stitches to top stitch the corners. So ensure you add 1/4” to your machine’s measurements.

Cut the lining fabric 1/2” longer in length, this is for the faux binding.

You will be cutting:

  • Front & back: 2 pcs. main fabric, 2 pcs. lining fabric, 2 pcs fusible foam
  • Sides: 2 pcs. main fabric, 2 pcs. lining fabric, 2 pcs fusible foam
  • Top: 1x main fabric, 1x lining fabric, 1x fusible foam
  • Strips of fabric for your applique.

About Joan Mantini

After several years of being the Facebook page owner at Beginner Sewing, I noticed there was a desperate need to have a single go-to spot for members to be able to find answers to their common questions, get some useful tips & tricks, as well as find reputable places to purchase sewing products online. Taking my role as a trade publication editor by day, and combining it with my knowledge of frequently requested beginner sewing advice, I created www.https://beginner-sewing.com/. An outlet that gives new sewists a free digital magazine geared for entry level sewing as an extra bonus!
