It was not until recently in my sewing journey that I started purchasing downloadable patterns. Mostly because I had no clue how to read them as a beginner. The pattern envelope alone was like one giant math problem that needed to be solved. And when I thought I solved the math problem (figured out the pattern) I would try it on and it was a disaster. But that is ok (deep breaths) … right?!?!?! Luckily for all of the beginner sewers today, YouTube exists, and you can find so many great tutorials on how to make your own clothes patterns, and MUCH, MUCH more.
Fact is, reading a pattern just might not be for me. But it might not be for you either. Which is why I wanted to share with you a YouTube video tutorial on how to use your clothes that you already love and know fit well to make your own patterns. This is a method I have been using much more successfully as a clothes pattern phobia’d sewists. Wendy does a great job showing you how simple this process can be.
Learning to make your own patterns can also be nice on the budget. Saves your money for fabric hoarding – I know I am not alone here!
And the truth is, after creating my own patterns, it was easier for me to comprehend other patterns.
