Fluffy Tail Bunny Dishtowel Sewing Project

Bunnies have been catching my eye lately! Today I wanted to share this fun Spring fluffy bunny decorative dishtowel tutorial with you from Flamingo Toes.  She does provide a list of materials needed, and a bunny printout to use below. However, if you do not have these things at home, take this idea as inspiration and see what you can come up with using things you have handy. For example, if you do not have any iron fusible webbing use some pins to hold your bunnies in place or a little dot of fabric glue in the center. This can be a great scrap fabric project or upcycle idea.

Materials:

  • DMC Charles Craft Linen Dishtowel
  • Small amounts of fabric for bunnies and hearts
  • 3″ x 40″ piece of fabric for the ruffle
  • fusible webbing
  • Lace Trim for the bottom edge of the towel – 1/2 yard
  • DMC Embroidery Floss in two coordinating colors to your fabric
  • yarn for pom pom or premade pom poms
  • Floral Bunny Pattern

Begin by cutting out pieces of fabric a little larger than each bunny and the three hearts. Iron fusible webbing to the back of each fabric piece then cut out the patterns. Remove the paper backing and iron the bunnies and hearts to the dishtowel. You want them centered on the lower half of the towel, about 2 1/2″ up from the bottom edge.

With a contrasting thread, stitch around the bunnies and hearts three times. This works great with a free-motion foot and the feed dogs lowered, but if you don’t have one you can just sew slowly around the edges.

Hem the two short sides and the bottom edge of your ruffle piece and sew a gathering stitch along the top raw edge.

Sew the ruffle to the bottom edge of the dishtowel, lining up the gathered edge with the bottom hemmed edge of the dishtowel. Sew in place with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Press the ruffle away from the dishtowel.

Sew a row of lace or other trim along the bottom of the dishtowel, just above the ruffle seam. Tuck the ends of the trim to the back side of the dishtowel and sew down.

Measure up 1/4″ from the trim and with your embroidery floss, stitch a running stitch along the bottom edge of the towel. Repeat with another contrasting color of floss, 1/4″ above the first one.

Make two small pom poms (or use pre-made pom poms) and sew them in place securely on the back side of each bunny.

You’re all finished! Isn’t it cute? And so simple to make too!
