Getting Creative

Are you planning your holiday sewing lists yet? We sure are! And we are also keeping all of our beginners in mind coming up with new and innovative ways that you can level up your beginner projects this year.

Inspired by our “all things crafting partnership” with Creative Fabrica, I encourage you to think outside the box for ways you can utilize freebies and bundles in your sewing projects.

Here are five examples of how they can benefit you:

  1. The most obvious is to take advantage of the sewing patterns. There are some great ones that give you the pattern and step-by-step instructions on how to sew them.
  2. The second most obvious are the embroidery files. Even if you do not have an embroidery sewing machine, you can still utilize these files by printing them off onto vanishing transfer paper and using them in hand embroidery or free-motion machine embroidery.
  3. Have you seen some of the silhouette and font images? Those are fantastic for using in appliques and permanent ink printout transfers! And if you keep your eyes open for the daily freebies, you will find several to add to your library.
  4.  Cut files? Yes! Cut files! You can also utilize these in sewing by printing them off and using them as applique templates orrrrrr…. you can print them off onto vanishing transfer paper and use them for hand embroidery or free-motion embroidery designs as well!
  5. Another creative sewing idea, however, comes from all of the coloring pages. These are a fantastic way to make a unique and creative gift for children. Let a little one color their own shirt (bag, dress, pillow, placemat etc. etc.) over and over again. It is easy… make your project (any beginner project will do), resize the image to fit your project in any program such as MS Word or MS Powerpoint, print off your design using permanent iron-on transfer (the ones in the images take advantage of a font bundle and a coloring page from Creative Fabrica), iron it onto your project. Be sure to include the washable markers with your gift for a unique and fun gift that any child would love.

About Joan Mantini

After several years of being the Facebook page owner at Beginner Sewing, I noticed there was a desperate need to have a single go-to spot for members to be able to find answers to their common questions, get some useful tips & tricks, as well as find reputable places to purchase sewing products online. Taking my role as a trade publication editor by day, and combining it with my knowledge of frequently requested beginner sewing advice, I created www.https://beginner-sewing.com/. An outlet that gives new sewists a free digital magazine geared for entry level sewing as an extra bonus!
