For years now, Beginner Sewing Facebook group members asked for challenges. Finally, in 2021, we shall deliver (better late than never!) Let’s kick the new year off with a 5-day sewing challenge just for beginners. Of course, others are welcome to join, but this challenge is to learn some new things and have fun doing it.

When does it start?

This 5- day challenge will be kicking off on January 4th.

How will it work?

Show your interest with your RSVP in the Facebook group here. Here you can ask your questions and get updates leading up to the event. One the day of the event, a new blog post will be put on the site, along with a video letting you know what you have to do.  To interact and support fellow group members, a daily post will be put up within the Facebook group dedicated to the daily challenge. Participants can either check-in with a picture share or with a text only update if they do not feel comfortable sharing.  This thread will also be open to ask questions or get help from one and other on the daily challenge.

How can I prepare?

Although you will not be receiving your challenges until the day of, you can still prepare ahead of time. Here is what you can do:

  1.  Have a button on hand (any size will do)
  2.  Do you have a dream fabric you have dreaming about but are too scared to step out of your comfort zone and sew it yet? Better make sure you have that on hand too!

That’s it! That is all you really need to do to prepare for this 5-day sewing challenge.

Wait… There is a bonus…

During this challenge, I will also have giveaway chances sponsored by Annies Kits Club which include:
  • A digital copy of Quilter’s World Winter 2020; and
  • A digital copy of Bench Pillows for All Seasons.
NOTE: This is not a competition it is a personal challenge. The giveaway will be done in a raffle format for participants.

About Joan Mantini

After several years of being the Facebook page owner at Beginner Sewing, I noticed there was a desperate need to have a single go-to spot for members to be able to find answers to their common questions, get some useful tips & tricks, as well as find reputable places to purchase sewing products online. Taking my role as a trade publication editor by day, and combining it with my knowledge of frequently requested beginner sewing advice, I created www.https://beginner-sewing.com/. An outlet that gives new sewists a free digital magazine geared for entry level sewing as an extra bonus!
